As much as I enjoy writing all different types of blog posts, my favourite ones are always my travel posts. I love being able to share my highlights and favourites bits of my trip not only because I like to share with them with you but also because it's a great way to remember all of the fun we had there!

One of the many 'new to me' places that I have been wanting to visit is Italy and seeing as my sister and mum had never been before either we decided to make it a priority and take a trip together this year... so at the beginning of September we flew out to Rome for five days.

D A Y O N E

We started the trip with a flight out of London on Monday morning and arrived in Rome (Ciampino Airport) by lunchtime and after travelling from the airport– we took the bus + metro, which were both surprisingly cheap and easy and only took around an hour in total– we arrived at our Airbnb.

Our Airbnb was absolutely perfect for what we needed, I can't recommend it highly enough! It was so affordable as well as being very central with the Spanish Steps only a five minute walk away and the Trevi Fountain more like ten minutes away. Our host, Roberta, was amazing and gave us a really detailed tour and run though of the place and gave us some great recommendations for pizza and gelato nearby, the essentials obviously! And as you can see from the pictures it was beautiful and had great views from the balconies. If it wasn't obvious we loved staying here and I'm going to link it here so you can check it out for yourself!

After chilling and getting settled in at our Airbnb we headed out to explore the surrounding area and get some food. Just around the corner we stumbled upon Al Caminetto which looked pretty nice so we grabbed some seats on the pavement and ordered a pizza. Honestly, it probably wasn't the best place we could have picked but we were pretty tired and hungry so for us, at the time, it was fine!

Once we were done with dinner we had a little wander around the area and had a peep at the Trevi Fountain, which despite being crowded with tourists at that time in the evening, still took my breath away and made me feel pretty emotional, it's so much more beautiful in real life and so much more impressive than I expected it to be. And after all that excitement we headed back to our Airbnb for an early night as we had a busy day planned on Tuesday!

Day two was probably the most 'planned' day we had...we had all decided to visit the Trastevere neighbourhood as lots of people had recommend it for the beautiful streets & Daisy had heard of a good vintage shop in the area– so we knew this was somewhere we really wanted to visit. After a little bit of a lay-in we made our way down to Trastevere– we also decided to try and hit some landmarks on the way there so after a little while, wandering and taking lots of pictures of the many pretty streets, we made it to the Pantheon. Obviously, like all of the landmarks we came to in Rome it was pretty packed out with tour groups, but there's no denying its a really beautiful area and the Pantheon itself it stunning!

After a little more wandering we crossed the river over into Trastevere and one of the first things we spotted was the most beautiful little bookshop called The Open Door Bookshop. When we came across it, I recognised it straight away so must have seen it on Pinterest at some point but had no idea it was it Rome, let alone in the neighbourhood we were visiting that day! After having a long look round (I could have honestly spent all day in that place) we made our way to find a cafe to grab some sandwiches for lunch– and after lunch it obviously time for some gelato!

Thankfully one of the gelato shops– Fior Di Luna– that had been recommend was just down the street so we headed there! They had a really great selection of flavours, I went for a caffe & chocolate hazelnut combo, which was amazing...our first Roman gelato experience went down amazingly! The street where Fior Di Luna is– Via della Lungaretta– is honestly one of the most beautiful streets to wander down, I'll leave the pictures below so you can see for yourself!

We carried on wandering around Trastevere for the rest of the afternoon, it such a beautiful place to explore, so if you like pretty little back streets, interesting shops and chilled vibes (there's not massive groups of tourists at every turn!) then I would 100% recommend spending an afternoon or day in the area!

As it was getting later in the day we decided to head back in the direction of our Airbnb via the Roman Forum and the Colosseum, which we realised was kind of the long way round but we wanted to try and hit the Colosseum at sunset...so after quite a long walk we made it to the Colosseum. Once we got there we took in the atmosphere and just rested our feet for a bit which was definitely needed at this point of the day! The view was so worth it though, seeing such an iconic and amazing site in real life and up close was incredible and felt like such a bucket list moment.

We had a little walk around the Colosseum and then sat for a while as we managed to catch the sun setting and leaving a beautiful warm sunset glow all over the Colosseum and then watched as it lit up from the inside. It was definitely a highlight of the trip for all of us. After all of that excitement it was time to head home to bed so we grabbed some takeaway pasta and made it back to our Airbnb feeling pretty exhausted but really content and happy after such a great day wandering in Rome!
