A WEEKEND AWAY AT LANDAL, DARWIN FOREST.

Recently I had the chance to spend a long weekend in the Peak District so I packed up my camera and a couple of books to read and headed up to Darwin Forest. I stayed at Landal GreenParks located in Darwin Forest & not only was the location great for exploring the surrounding area but the accommodation was definitely up there as one of the most cosy places I’ve stayed.
Just in case you haven’t already heard of Landal GreenParks– they are a network of holidays villages with six locations in the UK and over 80 across Europe and their focus is on nature and making the most of the beautiful surroundings in which each of the villages are set. In the UK they have locations in Northumberland, The Peak District, Lincolnshire, Cornwall & the Southern Highlands in Scotland.
Landal in the Peak District are great at catering to different types of holiday– if you want to really relax each lodge makes for the perfect cosy hideaway, if prefer to be on the go you can take advantage of the gym or hire a bike for the afternoon, if you want to try something a bit different they offer activities like archery and orienteering or if you want to head out and explore the local area then places like Bakewell and Chatsworth House are less than twenty minuets away.
I was especially looking forward to visiting the Peak District as it was somewhere in England I’d never visited before despite only being a three hour drive away and as soon as we reached the edge of the Peak District with it’s hills, moors and forests in sight I was especially excited to really explore the area.
When we arrived on Friday it was already dark so after a lovely dinner at the on-site restaurant– Foresters– I got settled in for the evening. Saturday morning we woke up to a sprinkling of snow so decided to really make the most of the day in our cosy lodge– we made cinnamon pancakes for breakfast, chilled out in the private, outdoor hot tub and spent the evening drinking hot chocolate and playing board games. Sunday consisted of a lot of the same but we also hired some bikes & had a bike ride through the forest before heading back to our lodge for another session in the hot tub. On Monday after we were all packed up, we said goodbye to Landal and headed out to explore Bakewell and Matlock, both beautiful little towns just a 15 minute drive away.
We had lovely, restful long weekend staying at Landal– I particually loved being able to disconnect from things a little bit and just enjoy having the forest literally on the doorstep. The facilities at Landal are great (I think families with small children would really benefit from everything they have on offer) but really everything I needed to enjoy the weekend was right there in our lodge and the outdoor hot tub was a very much appreciated luxury. I also especially loved being able to explore some of the Peak District and wander around Bakewell, it’s such a beautiful spot and I definitely want to head back at some point in the near future.
Thank you to Landal GreenParks UK for the weekend away! My stay at Landal, Darwin Forest was complimentary– as always all content & opinions are my own.
