STAYING WITH REST + WILD.
There’s really nothing like having the opportunity to have a peaceful break in the countryside and no better place than Rest + Wild— a series of cosy cabins tucked away in a beautiful corner of Shropshire with views across the rolling fields and hills— the perfect place to get away for a few days.
I feel like I’m risking over using the word cosy here but it really is the best way to describe the small but perfectly appointed cabins. Rest + Wild are all about being able to switch off and making the most of being surrounded by nature— the way they describe it themselves is that they provide everything you need and nothing you don’t. Think a wood burner to make everything feel extra warm & cosy, a beautiful king-size bed looking out to the view that makes waking up in the morning very special, an outdoor copper bathtub which lets you really make the most of the atmosphere and all of the kitchen and bathroom essentials that could need. Not only are the cabins practical but they’re beautiful to look at too— I hope that the photos speak for themselves.
Heading into Shropshire and up and over the hills we came across the fields and woodland belonging to the Downton Estate where the Rest + Wild cabins are set and even though we were only ten minutes away from Ludlow it really felt very idyllic. We spent our first evening sat around the fire pit watching the sun go down and toasting marshmallows before settling into the dreamy bed and getting a really good nights sleep.
I mentioned it earlier, but waking up to that view across to Clee Hill and to the sound of nothing but the local neighbouring sheep was a really special experience. For breakfast we took full advantage of one of the bespoke food hampers that Rest + Wild offers— these can be pre-ordered before you stay and are waiting in your cabin for you when you arrive. As well as the bespoke breakfast hamper full of local produce, they also offer the opportunity of other Pre Arrival Extras like a weekend BBQ hamper, cocktails, wine and local beer.
After a delicious breakfast we got to know the surroundings a little better and went on one of the set walks that Rest + Wild also kindly provide you with before your stay— another way they really help you make the most of staying in nature. To add even more to the cosy atmosphere the rain started in the early afternoon and we made our way back to the cabin, started up the log burner and snuggled in under the duvet to do some reading and listen to rain falling against the window. During a brief pause in the rain showers I ran a warm bubble bath in the beautiful outdoor tub, really the perfect way to end a very cosy day. After another restful nights sleep there was just enough time to cook up another plate of egg and sausages and pack our things before we had to reluctantly leave our homely little cabin, feeling all the better for our peaceful stay and head out to explore the area further.
We stopped at the nearby market town of Ludlow before heading back home taking in all of the historic streets, visiting all of the independent shops and making a stop at the popular (and rightly so) Harp Lane Deli to get some lunch and enjoying it down by the river. There’s so much more in Shropshire that I would have loved to explore but hopefully that just means I can visit again in the future. As for Rest + Wild, I can’t recommend staying with them highly enough— especially if you’re looking for somewhere to truly switch off and enjoy a slow, quiet and comfortable stay.
My stay with Rest + Wild was complimentary— as always all content & opinions are my own.
